Fortuny is pleased to introduce the new W/S 2018 collection, The Philosopher’s Stone, inspired by the centuries old legend of the alchemical substance that was believed could transform common metals into precious ones. The idea of a philosopher’s stone led to an examination of where the inherent value of materials comes from. How do you take an object and give it a soul? How do you take the ordinary and make it extraordinary? Painters do it with canvas. Poets do it with words. We do it with cloth.

In addition to 13 printed cottons in 8 colors inspired by jewel tones, the collection also features the introduction of printed velvets in 5 colors. A new large scale design, Gran Battocchio, comes straight from the archives of Mariano Fortuny, joining several other beloved patterns in a variety of scale and tonality.

This collection is a reverential embrace of the living tradition of innovation and craftsmanship behind Fortuny’s distinguished textiles, fashion and art. It will debut at Paris Deco Off in January 2018.
