MELILLA is an early Javanese batik pattern with langko-lenko or zig-zagging line work in a thickly patterned grid. The repetitive design motifs in MELILLA were believed to provide a meditative effect on the creator and multiply the cloth's magical powers to transmit it to the wearer. The symmetry and symbology in Javanese patterns are tied to Javanese philosophy’s principles and the people’s connection to cosmology.

Invented in Venice. Made in Venice
Designed with the italian touch, from start to finish. Built on the grounds of an ancient convent, the inner workings of the factory remain secret 100 years later. Our founder's will holds that the techniques used to create the iconic fabrics were never to be revealed publicly.
FORTUNY’S METHODS ARE PASSED DOWN AMONG GENERATIONS OF ARTISTS WHO CONTINUE CREATING NEW WORK WITH THE TECHNIQUES AND MACHINES FROM OUR FOUNDING.
