Madame de SEVIGNE is yet another fantastic French historical figure who captivated Mariano Fortuny’s imagination, like Richelieu, Mazzarino, or Lamballe. The 17th-century people and the designs they inspired are both excessive in their riches. SEVIGNE is filled with feathery plumes and foliage that extols the glories of the garden and the dolce vita. Mme de Sevigne herself was known for flowery embellishment with her letter writing, considered a jewel of 17th-century French literature.
